Three words: It. Was. Rougher than Week 1.*
I’ll give you a quick summary of how Week Two works. You warm up by walking “briskly” for five minutes. Then, you do a 2.5 minute job followed by a 2.5 minute walk – do that 5 times then cool down with another 5 minute walk.
Day 1: Not so bad. I made the mistake of doing my route backwards, which meant that I started going up hill. BAD MOVE. Within the first minute I had a cramp in side and almost keeled over. But, by the end of the second running interval I was recovering quickly and everything felt great. On the last running interval, my left calf cramped up but after the cool down it was loose again and all was right with the world. The husband followed me with the dogs, which was a nice break for me because they like to trip me up – so it was sort of freeing to not be dealing with them on this run. Plus – the bonus was having a walking partner 🙂
Day 2: Like I said on Week 1 Day 1, the fifth or sixth day is the hardest – I was completely right. Within the first 45 seconds of running, my legs started cramping, my side started cramping, I developed shin splints and of my ankles almost gave out. So – to say today sucked in an understatement. It was easily the worst day of running yet. After my issues with the first running interval, I adjusted my route in order to have a longer cool down home. I knew I was going to need to loosen some muscles, and so far, as I sit here typing this, I feel a lot better. I also may or may not have adjusted my route one block in order to get sprayed with a sprinkler from someone’s yard. What? It was like 75 degrees out there and I had just ran up a hill. I deserved an award.
Day 3: Sucked less than Day 2, which is good. Although my left calf was so cramped I could barely lift my foot. I kind of had to fling it in front of me in order to keep going. The husband and the dogs came with me again. It’s nice when they come because it pushes me to keep going. I don’t think I’ll be able to take the dogs by myself anymore, they’re too busy sniffing and peeing on stuff and I’m really trying to stick to the program. I feel bad, because they looooooove to come with me, but they’re a little bit of a hassle. I will probably try to pick my route to end at the house before cool down and then take them on a walk.
